This research is conducted in collaboration with Steven Lulich’s Speech Production Laboratory (IU Speech & Hearing Sciences). The technology available in the Speech Production Lab allows for the capture of three-dimensional video of tongue morphology during the production of various speech sounds. These data can be combined with additional data such as audio recordings, webcam video, and scanned 3D palate impressions. The methodology is particularly good for capturing coronal and and dorsal activity.
The final output is illustrated in the video below, which shows the American English word LOCK produced by a female talker from New England.
